Abstract
According to the National Statistical Office¡¯s report, cancer was the 1st cause of death by illness in Korea from 1998 to 2008. The number of diagnosis of cancer rose to 142,610 in 2005 up from 101,032 in 1999. The response rate and survival rate are increasing due to the increase of occurrence, diagnostic technique, medicine development.

The cancer treatment is composed with chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. Among the process, the side effects of the treatment make patients be in physical, psychological and economic trouble.

Thus, accurate information about the cancer, understanding of whole treatment and handling of the side effects are important in the treatment and contribute to quality of life of patients. Thus, cancer patients and family members want to know about the cancer and treatment but for the current medical center system, it is not easy to give concrete consultant and information to every patient. Also, development of communication techniques makes easier to get the information via mass media, and wrong information is increasing too. The cancer patient education by Yonsei university healthcare system is based on this need.

The education has been held from December 2008 on weekdays. The subjects of the education differ every day which are composed of the principle of cancer treatment, medicines used with cancer treatment and the method of pain control, and so on. After the education, we have a question and answer session and medication consultant session, too.

From August to October 2009, we did a survey about satisfaction of the education provided, the most necessary time of education, and so on. All the participants of the education were asked to complete a questionnaire, and 54% of the questionnaires were returned. I will discuss on improving way of the education based on the questionnaires and daily records of the education.
